Scented Tea

Scented tea is a cornerstone of Chinese tea culture, where tea leaves are expertly blended with flowers or fruits to create aromatic infusions. The scenting process, conducted before the tea is fully processed, involves layering fresh flowers or fruits with tea leaves to absorb their natural essence. Once the scenting is complete, the materials are removed, leaving behind pure, fragrant tea.

Common ingredients used in scented tea include jasmine, lychee, magnolia, osmanthus, gardenia, and rose. Among these, jasmine tea, especially green tea scented with jasmine, stands out as a quintessential example of Chinese scented tea. Its delicate floral aroma and refreshing green tea base make it a timeless favorite.

Unlike Gongfu or English-style teas, Chinese scented tea contains only tea leaves and dried petals, free from artificial additives. For instance, black and oolong teas are often paired with osmanthus to create a unique flavor profile.

Rooted in the principle of pure tea, Chinese tea culture emphasizes the importance of water quality to enhance the tea’s natural aroma. Scented tea is enjoyed without spices or dairy, offering a pure and authentic tea experience.
